Evidence indicating a chemical reaction between hydroxylamine and riboflavin.

چکیده
The observation that hydroxylamine inhibits xanthine oxidase activity through interference with the dehydrogenase portion of the enzyme (1) led us to determine whether hydroxylamine forms a chemical complex with riboflavin or its biological derivatives, riboflavin-5phosphate (FMN) and flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD). These studies were stimulated by those of Kaplan and his group, who explained hydroxylamine inhibition of alcohol dehydrogenase activity (2, 3) by demonstrating that diphosphopyridine nucleotide (DPN) forms a chemical complex with hydroxylamine (4, 5). Spectrophotometric data reported in this paper indicate the formation of a chemical complex among riboflavin, FMN, FAD, and hydroxylamine.

Riboflavin and protoporphyrin IX are two molecules that participate in oxidation and reduction reactions in the living cell. Changing some functional groups of riboflavin and protoporphyrin IX can provide compounds with self-assembled monolayer properties with wide applications in designing the molecular electronic devices. In this study, the amphiphilic structure of riboflavin and protopor...

Background: Faba bean toxicity (favism) is a common condition observed in our region. Objective: To develop a short and simple technique involving the use of riboflavin-deficient rats to test in vivo faba bean toxicity. Methods/Results: Sprague Dawley rats were maintained on a riboflavin-deficient diet and their vitamin B2 status was monitored by the assay of erythrocyte glutathione reductase (...
متن کاملRiboflavin Lowers Blood Pressure: A Review of a Novel Gene-nutrient Interaction
Hypertension, defined as a systolic/diastolic blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg or greater, is estimated to carry a three-fold increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Evidence from genome-wide association studies has identified an association between blood pressure and the gene encoding the folate-metabolising enzyme, methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR). Recent meta-ana...
